There's probably a few different options to explore but the government are very small-minded - both the sitting government and their opposition. The government is led by a weak individual who avoids the hard decisions and seems incapable of thinking long term. He doesn't want to upset or offend anyone which in turn sees him upset and offend everyone.

Australia is a resource rich continent and yet there's no clear plan to take advantage of it and stupid decisions are made such as closing all but two of our oil refineries.
