A sunny day, also with the beautiful color of the iced drink is a blessing, for chilling out even if only for a moment.
While I am still in the hospital, waiting for my mother who is still sick, I browsed through my phone gallery. Some recipes also about my visits to several cafes I have not made content to post.
While accompanied by fatigue, also boredom, there is one recipe that caught my attention in the phone gallery. It is ”Blue Pea Flowers Milk” in the plant-based version.
The resulting colors of this simple drink make my eyes feel refreshed. At least I can divert my boredom with this drink.
I'm happy to share how I made this super refreshing drink for a hot day in the tropics.
NOTE: If you don't have blue pea flowers, you can replace them with other ingredients to make the tea base. For example roselle flowers, or even powdered green tea. It's always interesting to combine one ingredient with another to make iced.
THE INGREDIENTS
I took fresh blue pea flowers from the garden. Sometimes I also use this harvest to make Blue Pea Flowers Pudding (I have posted the recipe for the pudding on my previous blog).
Besides blue pea flowers, I have a supply of fresh young coconut (water and flesh). But in this recipe, I don't use coconut water. I only use young coconut flesh for the filling and topping of this drink.
For milk, I use my favorite plant-based milk, coconut milk. Another plant-based milk that you can use for this recipe if you don't have coconut milk is soy milk.
How about replacing it with almond milk? As for almond milk, I don't recommend it for this recipe. Why? Because the strong aroma of almond milk will not combine well with blue pea flower water. It's going to be weird later.
So, the best plant-based milk for this recipe is coconut milk. Coconut milk has a pleasant aroma, as well as a creamy consistency that is good for drinks, especially for lattes.
HOW TO SERVE
STEP 1
First of all, we have to make tea from blue pea flowers. Here, I do not have a specific measure for the hot water. I just flush the fresh blue pea flowers with hot water according to the dose that I will serve. Here I only serve one drink.
Then wait a while. Add the sweetener you want. If you don't want to change the color, you can use sugar in general. Or you can use honey or even palm sugar.
The process of waiting for blue pea flowers tea is also a step to make the tea temperature not too hot. You can stir the tea after the blue color has reached your desired taste. Stir the tea to reduce the heat.
STEP 2
Prepare the milk in a serving glass. Use milk at room temperature. However, if you want to make a warm version of the drink, use pre-warmed milk.
STEP 3
STEP 4
Add blue pea flower tea. Oh, this is a fun activity! I really like how the blue pea flowers tea creates such a beautiful color on top of the coconut milk.
STEP 5
Add young coconut flesh according to taste. You can also add a little young coconut water to this drink if you want.
SERVE
What a beautiful drink! It was like a drink in the land of a beautiful dream. Is not it? I then realized that this drink really looks like the dream drink that many people crave, when added to the blue cloth property for a photoshoot. It was perfect!
I am very satisfied with the result. The taste of the drink is refreshing, coupled with delicious young coconut flesh! Especially for those of you who really like tea from herbal flowers, this drink is an option that is worth trying. :)
Well, to be honest, I've also added a sour Yakult drink to this ice. It feels... I like it more and more. In my opinion, it is more characterized and complex than the original taste of the drink without the addition of sour ingredients.
I hope you guys like this version of my drink that I made before my mother was admitted to the hospital. Thank you to all my friends who have prayed for my mother's recovery. I really appreciate it.
