Hello, friends, food lovers, and community! I am always open to making changes to my meals to balance flavors for better health while also saving money and time. Whenever I have a successful experience with a new dish, I add it to my favorites list.
Today's recipe is another new experiment, and I’m happy to share that it has also made it to my favorites list.
Masala Oat
I’ve never made spicy oats before.
So, how did I come up with this idea?
During a recent shopping trip in India, I came across a fancy store that had a package labeled "spicy oats." I wanted to buy it to try, but it was quite expensive, and I wasn't sure about the packaging date.
Here in Norway, oatmeal is a regular part of our diet, and we often use it in various dishes. Yesterday, while making porridge for breakfast, I suddenly remembered that package and decided to give it a try.
And today, here it is!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup oats
- 1 carrot
- 1/2 cup frozen green peas
- 2 tablespoons cooked brown chickpeas
- 1/2 green bell pepper
- 1 spring onion
- 1 green chili
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 pinches of turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 2-3 slices of red radish (for garnish)
Instructions:
CChop all the vegetables.
Heat a pan over medium heat.
Pour the oil into the pan.
Add the chopped vegetables one by one, including green chili.
stirring them just until they become shiny.
Add the green peas and stir with the vegetables for 1 minute.
remove the chili to avoid extra hotness, my husband doesn't like it so hot, and this chili is very hot.
Season with salt, pepper, and the masala. Mix everything well.
Incorporate the cooked brown chickpeas.
Pour 2 cups of water into the vegetable mixture
and stir until combined. Cook until it starts boiling.
Once the mixture boils, gradually add the oats while stirring.
Cook for one more minute, then cover and turn off the heat.
After 2 minutes, it is ready to serve.
Garnish with colorful fruit slices, nuts, or any vegetable you prefer. I use fresh Norwegian red radish for added flair.
This dish is delicious and suitable for a quick and easy lunch or breakfast. Enjoy!
Thank you.
