We all know how Palm Oil or Palmolein Oil is bad for our health. Then why India is the World's biggest importers of Palm Oil?
You'd be quite surprised to know that you consume palm oil on a daily basis.
Chips, Biscuits, Noodles, Bread, Chocolates, Namkeens, Ice-creams all contained Palm Oil. Even in Toothpastes, Bathing Soap, Lipsticks contain Palm Oil.
You get these items in the US as well, but they don't use Palm Oil there, but use it in India.
Until 1990, India was self-sufficient in the field of Edible oil. But in just 30 years, India is importing Palm oil in huge quantity. Huge quantity means import of approx. 50,000 Crores of Palm Oil from various countries.
According to survey, 50 percent heart attacks happens in Indians below 50 years. And a hidden reason behind this is our Palm Oil consumption. Palm Oil has been linked to Heart-Disease and is also damaging to our environment and animals.
It is difficult to avoid daily usage products i.e. soap, toothpastes, lipsticks and all. But we can avoid or reduce palm oil intake in 2 easy steps:
- Check Ingredient regularly where the lists are in order of weight. The higher the weight, the earlier it appears on the list. If some product has Palm Oil in the first 3 Ingredients. Then it has a lot of Palm Oil, and you should try to limit your consumption to 1-2 times per month or it would be harmful for your health.
- Banana, Guava, Cucumber, Puffed rice, Khoi, Chickpea, Peanuts, Foxnuts, Dates, Raisins, Almonds, Cashews, Pistachio... these don't have palm oil. Enjoy them!
