Good day everyone,
Since I had the chance to buy fresh peanuts, today we will try to cook candied peanuts for the first time. It's kind of boring to buy in stores every time we like to eat candied peanuts, so I thought of trying to make it so that if it succeeds, I'll just stock up at home so I can also save since everyone at home likes peanuts.
Ingredients
- 1 cup plain peanuts
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup water
- a pinch of salt
In this recipe, we will only use four ingredients, but in this picture, I wasn't able to include the salt because I later decided it would be good to add a little salt to balance the sweetness. I also tried to only use 1 cup of peanuts for trial this time.
Cooking procedure
- The first step to make our candied peanuts is, in a pan, I used a non-stick pan for better cooking, but it's okay to use any pan. In a pan that is not yet on fire, I combined all the ingredients namely a cup of plain washed peanuts of course, half a cup of brown sugar, 1/3 cup of water, and a pinch of salt, and stirred to dissolve sugar and salt.
- After everything is combined. Let's light the stove to start cooking. At this stage, we have to put the fire on medium heat until it simmers with continuous stirring.
The first photo at the top left shows the sandy stage where the peanut is coated with sugar already. The photo below is where sugar started to caramelize. The photo on the right side is where the finished candied peanuts that I cool down.
- And when what we are cooking is dry, then we put the fire on a low volume. At this time, we can see that the brown sugar is sticking to the peanuts. Usually, if this was only for sale in the market vendors would have this kind of texture but since it's only for eating I did caramelize the sugar more.
(Remember that we have to continue stirring it patiently since this time it's important not to overcook them if you don't want them to taste bitter.)
For my recipe today it only took me 5 minutes to coat peanuts with sugar on medium heat then another 5 minutes with a lower heat to caramelize sugar.
Finally, after cooling down and keeping them in a container this is my finished product and I'm so happy to say even though it's my first try making this crunchy candied peanut it was a success which means if there's any chance I can buy fresh peanuts again since they are seldom sold in our market I'll just make my peanut candies and maybe that time I make another version of candied peanuts.
And that's all for now thank you so much for reading this far. I hope you like it and maybe you want to try it too, just let me know.
Let's eat! 🥜
