A compote is a side food, a compote is not a staple food, esp ecially for the people of Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. Their staple food is rice. If you haven't eaten a white rice and a side dish of fish, eggs or meat, it feels like something is still missing on that day.
And a compote are generally liked by the people of Aceh, as well as most people in Indonesia. All a people like to eat a compote, a compote is different from pudding, although there are several types of fruit mixed into a compote so into pudding too.
And the people in Aceh usually call the pudding also a compote and vice versa, which is because according to the Aceh people a compote or pudding is made from a mixture of various kinds of fruits. That's their excuse calleed a compote same like a pudding.
Such and must as fruit, fro fruit, sweet potato, rice, sticky rice, jelly, green beans, jackfruit, corn, bananas, pumpkin and so on. That's why a compote and pudding are considered the same by almost everyone in Aceh. Because that the same of it.
There are a Different Types of a Compote
A people in Aceh will often to eat a compote or pudding during the month of Ramadan, it doesn't mean that in other months, apart from the month of Ramadan they don't eat pudding, no, in other day or other months they just don't eat it often.
In the month of Ramadan, a compote or pudding will be easy to found everywhere they are sold, a compote is very easy to find during the month of Ramadan, even when you want to break your fast (iftar), if there is no a compote, it feels like something is missing from the iftar menu on that day.
A compote can be eaten by all age groups of people, there are no things that, for example, old people, a people who are already aged cannot eat this and that. But the ingredients or the mixture in the compote are all fruits that can be eaten by all age of groups.
It is from the mixtures that the people in Aceh really like to eat this a compote. There are several types of compote, for example banana compote, corn compote, cassava compote, jackfruit compote, pumpkin compote and many more.
How to Make a Compote
To make a compote itself is very easy, the main ingredients apart from the fruit mixture are palm sugar, pandan leaves and coconut milk. Then it is mixed with jackfruit, corn, cassava, sweet potato, banana, fro, green beans, rice, glutinous rice and so on.
How to make it, first heat the water, after the water is boils then add the palm sugar, pandan leaves and coconut milk then the ingredients are heated again. After a few moments have boiled, so then all the fruit mixture is put into the pot earlier.
Thirty minutes of boiling a compote will surely be cooked, as for the compote it is very soft in the mouth, if the taste is definitely different. There are people who like it sweeter, there are those who like it not sweet and there are also those who like it just to taste. It depends on the person who eats a compote.
