Every country has different ways of living Christmas, of creating decorations, in some countries more and in others less. Christmas decorations had never appealed to me so much before, until I arrived in Spain.
I arrived in this country in June 2018 and my mother and brother at the end of November of the same year.
So they arrived just to be all together for Christmas and also just at the time when the streets were being decorated and different light events were taking place for this great festivity.
I had never seen such beauty in Christmas decorations and I remember my mother was absolutely amazed by the lights, the songs, the decorations. Her eyes would widen at the sight of all this wonder.
Since that moment and for the last 5 years, every Christmas, when these dates come, we go out at night to photograph from the most ostentatious to the most simple decorations located in almost hidden streets. They are all beautiful.
That is why photographs of street decorations have become collectibles for us. We put them in a folder, we put the year and the name Christmas plus the corresponding year on them.
That way we keep each of these pictures as if they were postcards. My mother takes hers and I take mine and we enjoy those night walks admiring every light and every original way these decorations are made.
Almost every street in the city has some of them, but the centre is where the greatest number of them are concentrated. In addition, Malaga is characterised by an out-of-the-ordinary light and music show, which years ago earned it the title of the best show in the world in this respect.
Tourists from all over the world come to see it and also to see the decorations that are finely placed in every street.
Like every year, this year we go out for our traditional walk and to collect decorations. My mother forms hers and I form mine or sometimes we exchange photos as if they were collectible figurines. And for us they are.
We set off in search of them, of every light, of the art that shapes every street with its decorations.
A walk of about two hours meant that we were able to collect several. My mother liked some more and I liked others... sometimes we coincided.
First we walked around the outskirts before reaching the city centre and then we went into the little streets as if it were a labyrinth.
It's not only about collecting but also about looking for one that is different from the other. Some streets have the same ones, so it's as if we were hunting and finding a decoration that is eye-catching or more illuminated or that stands out for its originality.
I found several, I speak for myself. I haven't seen my mother's collection yet, she hasn't shown it to me.
We made several zigzags through the streets, I even walked through some of the dimly lit ones looking for more and more for my collection for this year.
Finally we arrived in the centre where the famous Larios street is located, where the most beautiful show I have ever seen takes place and surprises me every year. So much beauty.
As I pass by and at the intersection with the main street more and more appear and even hidden restaurants with their own tree decorations, for example.
The square Constitución was beautiful, there I found many decorations of stars, moons and angels, beautiful lights that decorated the whole square, plus a gigantic tree that glittered in the night with a half moon.
The tree was so beautiful, people were crowding around I think to have a collection like me, but I think mine is bigger. Just kidding.
Soon the show would start and I rushed to collect more pictures of the decorations that would then play with the lights and the music.
After the show, which lasted about 10 minutes, I set off for home, but of course by a different route to enlarge my collection and I got some wonderful ones of a different kind.
Even the narrowest streets had something special to show and I managed to capture some that I really liked.
This is a tradition I didn't have before, but I remembered that told me, now you can make new collections and I remembered this one.
I hope you liked it. I thank you all for reading and seeing these pictures.
Best regards to all of you and see you next time.
