Greetings to all my fellow collectors. On this occasion, I would like to present my modest collection of shoes (sneakers, boots, dress shoes, etc.). I admit that I don't spend much money on shoes, so my “collection” consists of only a few items. Still, I can't complain, because unfortunately there are many, too many, poorer “collections” in the world.
Since this collection is quite short, today I'm offering a 2-for-1 deal, shoes and key chains, and this way I can catch up with the community.
First, I'm going to show you the shoes that have been with me for the last few years: Feiyue sneakers.
I found out about these sneakers through some friends who practice martial arts. One day I decided to buy a pair and try them out. At the time, they were a very inexpensive brand, and although they are a little more expensive now, they are still comfortable. The only drawback is that because they have a very thin sole, they are not very durable. But it is precisely that thin sole, because of the feeling of grounding it provides, that I like about this type of shoe.
As I said, these shoes don't last very long, so I always have a spare pair of sneakers ready to replace my old Feiyues when the time comes.
Next are my hiking boots. The last time I wore them was a few years ago in Madrid, when it was snowing up to my knees and there were large patches of frozen water. I wore them for many years during the holidays, as the mountains were always my favorite place to spend them.
With them, I have explored many of the mountain ranges that crisscross the Iberian Peninsula.
The boots you can see now are the last pair of leather (and handmade) ankle boots I bought many, many years ago... For decades, they were my everyday footwear. A parka, a dark suit with a three-button jacket and slim-fit trousers, and the ankle boots became my standard uniform.
Those were the days of urban tribes, and within mine, it was a common way of dressing.
These are the sneakers I've worn more than expected this winter. They're very comfortable, although I've worn them more than usual this year because of the low temperatures we've had in Madrid.
And here ends my shoe collection. As you can see, it's very short. Since I stopped buying boots, I haven't been very concerned about footwear. I like to be comfortable, and I don't care much about aesthetics.
And since this post would be very short if it ended here, I'll continue with my keyring collection.
Key rings
The first key ring you can see is one that I am very fond of. It was given to me by a friend who knows of my devotion to that mountain of flesh and bones (Dalí) that is the Sagrada Familia.
In addition to the towers of the temple, you can also see the scallop shell that represents the Camino de Santiago.
When I was 14, I started buying my first vinyl records with the little money I had as a kid. I was lucky to have a grandmother who gave me some money and that one of the cheapest record stores in Madrid was near my house.
Over time, I discovered Madrid's second-hand stores, including La Gramola. The key ring is a promotional item from this store, La Gramola.
For years, I bought second-hand records there. It wasn't a cheap store, but the service was very good and, what's more, it was a family business run by true music lovers.
A few years ago, the father passed away and his children took over the business. One of them gave me this keyring. I have a small part of his father's vinyl collection at home.
Let's continue with our trip down memory lane. The next keyring is quite old. It was given to me by a friend who supports Atlético Madrid, a great engraving artist.
Let's continue with Atlético Madrid. Promotional keyring that was part of Jesús Gil's merchandise when he ran for president of my beloved soccer club.
He lived up to the slogan “For a new Atleti” to the letter. Anyway... I don't want to stay here and get upset and cry...
The following key ring is very special. I bought it second-hand about four years ago. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, I “got to know” many of Spain's major cities traveling with the Peña Legazpi (and accompanied by my parents). When I saw it on one of those websites that sell collectibles, I didn't hesitate to buy it.
The following keychain is a gift from someone who knows me very well. It has a stone, a tourmalinated prehnite with various properties.
I have a very good relationship with stones; I have a few living with me at home. Recently, a very special one joined the stone family, one with magical powers.
Now let's move on to beer. The keyring isn't exactly from my favorite beer brand. I think I remember it being part of a promotion where you bought a certain number of beers and got a free keyring.
This small pocket knife is very special. It was a gift from a very good friend after his father passed away. A thoughtful gesture towards those who accompanied him during a rather sad time.
Although it may not look like it, it is a handcrafted item, a pocket knife from Taramundi. Handmade knives with a very good reputation.
Let's get back to music. This B.B. King keychain arrived at my house from Memphis. It was a gift from someone who was a very good friend at the time. Then, time (the explanation could be longer, of course!) ended up separating our paths.
Back to beer... All I can say about this keyring is that it turned up in my jacket pocket one morning. I don't remember how it got there. I've had it for over thirty years.
This keyring belonged to my father. He was a cigar smoker, and this keyring is a small guillotine. I don't know where it came from, but now I have it.
I'll finish with a keyring that I don't remember where it came from or how it ended up in my possession. It might have been a gift from a bank or from some event organized by a laboratory.
It's a designer keyring, and I'm presenting it here as a metaphor. It's probably the most elegant keyring I own and, at the same time, the one that means nothing to me.
I hope you liked this 2-for-1 offer. More to come soon.
Thank you for joining me here.
