With winter finally here, it's time to pull out some scarves to keep me nice and warm when I go out. I normally stick to one or two throughout the whole winter because once I use one, I'm too lazy to find another one. When announced the Scarves, shawls, bandanas for this month's Hive Collectors theme, I figured it's the perfect opportunity for me to do a stock check. I don't really know how many scarves I have, not many I guess, as I'm not a big scarf person.
Checkers
These are my two favorite ones, and from the opposite of the spectrum. The one on the left is from Primark, a very affordable fashion retailer in UK and Europe. I bought it 2 or 3 years ago, for under £10, it might have even been £6. If I remember correctly they labelled it as a sustainable product made from recycled plastic. It doesn't feel plastically at all and feels just like normal man made material. The problem with this, is that so many people have it 🙃
The one on the right, you might recognize the iconic Burberry pattern. I love this scarf, it's so soft and fluffy and feels very luxurious, worth every penny that I paid for. Ok, it was a lot more expensive than the Primark one, but not that expensive because I bought it at the factory outlet. And when you consider it will last me a long long time (I've had it for over 10 years now) it is great value for money.
Lighter scarves
In the 90s pashmina suddenly became a very 'in' thing and everyone was buying one. For those not familiar with them, Pashmina is made from cashmere from Himalayan goats. Specifically they only use hair from the chest where it is the finest and softest, and not a lot on each goat. The rarity, plus the fact they are all hand made meant pure pashimina scarves were very expensive. Back then, a bunch of us girls from the office managed to get a colleague from our India office to source some for us. It worked out a lot cheaper and we knew we were getting real pashiminas (assuming our colleague wasn't ripping us off or he wasn't ripped off by the seller). I've had my pink pashmina for a long long time now, and like my Burberry scarf, it's worked out to be really good value for money over the years, and it is very soft ..
The white scarf is more of a summer one to keep me warm in the evenings when I'm wearing short sleeves. I can't remember where I got it from, maybe in Thailand. I don't use it a lot as I keep on forgetting I have it.
Other scarves
The knitted one on the right is my early autumn scarf when it starts to turn cold in early autumn. It's not very thick but keeps the wind out when it gets a chilly. It's done its job for this year now.
The two in the middle, the brown leopard spot and white and pink flowers I seldom use, particularly the brown leopard spots, that is so un-me, I don't even know why I have it. The problem with these two is that they're very light and are more decorative than functional. With me being a practical person and don't keep up with my appearances much, they're relegated to the drawer most of the time.
And this one of the left. Again I don't know where I got this from. It's tricky one to wear. It's made of velvety material, hence quite heavy but it's also got the see through patches. When I wear it, it tends to lump together like it's strangling me. Not my favourite.
Squares
And these re the square scarves. I think the blue one is a present from my brother, it's silk and from Liberty's, a high end department store in London. The yellow one is a Burberry. It was from one of my ex line manager, a rather wealthy fashionable lady who was very generous with her staff. Hand on heart, professionally, she was one of the few nice line managers I had in the past. The problem with square scarves is that I don't know how to wear them. I've looked up on line and youtube vides on how to tie scarves, but I always think I end up looking like an air hostess!!!
Promo gifts
And finally, I found these two when I put my scarves away after their photoshoot. That's why they're not in the group photo. They're a freebie from my mobile phone company. Every now and then they give out random gifts like hats, skin care products, health snacks, chocolate and these scarves. These scarves are quite loud and have the company logo slapped in the corner. They're still in their bag, I'll probably give them away to people in need. It's Christmas, I'm sure it will keep someone nice and warm.
