Once I started a collection of postage stamps. I was a child, and I pasted the small stamps on the pages of a notebook. After a cyclone hit it was damaged by rain and I mourned that loss a lot. In 2019 I started another collection, this time of coins. I don't really treasure old coins, although I have several.
What I want most with this collection is to have the coins used in the world. It has an educational purpose: if a friend is going to travel, I show him the type of coin he will see. My collection must have a utilitarian character, beyond satisfying me emotionally.
How did I get the coins I own? Some time ago I posted on a social network that I was interested in collecting coins and to my surprise, several friends agreed to contribute. Usually, when you travel to another country, you bring, among your souvenirs, coins.
I try to ask each friend who travels to bring me as complete a set of currencies as possible. I don't ask for bills because they usually have more value. However, some friends have brought them to me. It is a beautiful thing to collect.
When I lived in Spain for 3 months, I was able to collect Euro coins, in all their classifications. The Euro has beautiful banknotes and they are related to the culture of humanity. While I was there, another friend of mine who lives in Germany sent me old coins from his country via postal mail during the Covid-19 period. He even sent me a fragment of the "Berlin Wall". A faithful listener of the radio, Lidia, which is a flower name, traveled to Katar, because she is a nurse and she went there to heal the sick people of Covid. On her return, she brought me the complete set of coins and banknotes - what beautiful coins, what colorful banknotes!
Oddly enough, the collection I have had the most work with is the Cuban one. I have managed to collect the coins used before 1959, like the bill you see, which dates from 1954. They have tried to buy it from me, but I do not sell it. In Cuba, before 2020, 2 types of currency circulated: the Cuban peso and the so-called CUC (also a Cuban peso). The latter is no longer in circulation, but I keep the whole series of coins.
Other coins I have belong to Mexico, the United States, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Guatemala and Venezuela. Although they have been given to me as gifts, I work in my spare time on their classification. It is not easy at all.
I have to google the description of the coin in order to identify its country. It is not easy. Likewise, whenever I know of someone I know who travels to another country, I always try to ask them for the favor of contributing to my collection.
A friend of mine collects stones, and when she learned about the fragment I have of the "Berlin Wall", she wanted to buy it or have me break it in two, but I wouldn't do it, because of the value I place on gifts from my friends. I have also contributed collections of stones, cacti, pens, pencils.
According to what I have seen, in Cuba they collect, among other objects: postage stamps, cactus, pencils, pens, books, records, cassettes, soda cans (I would love to get one of these), perfume knobs, colored bottles, mugs...

Hola, amigas y amigos de #Hive. Hace varias semanas que hallé esta comunidad, Hive Collectors, y rápidamente quise intercambiar con algunos amigos que comparten otro de mis pasatiempos preferidos: coleccionar. Es una pasión esta de juntar objetos, teniendo en cuenta diversas clasificaciones: antigüedad, colores, geografía, recuerdos…
Una vez comencé una colección de sellos postales. Era un niño, y pegué los pequeños sellos en las hojas de un cuaderno. Tras el paso de un ciclón se dañó por la lluvia y lloré mucho aquella pérdida. En 2019 inicié otra colección, esta vez de monedas. Realmente no atesoro monedas antiguas, aunque tengo varias.
Lo que más deseo con esta colección es tener las monedas usadas en el mundo. Tiene un propósito educativo: si algún amigo va a viajar, yo le muestro el tipo de moneda que verá. Mi colección debe tener un carácter utilitario, más allá de satisfacerme emocionalmente.
¿Cómo logré las monedas que poseo? Hace tiempo puse en una red social que estaba interesado en coleccionar monedas y para sorpresa mía, varios amigos accedieron a contribuir. Por lo general, cuando se viaja a otro país, se traen, entre los recuerdos, monedas.
Yo trato de pedirle, a cada amigo que viaja, que me traiga la serie de monedas que se usa en el país de destino, lo más completa posible. No pido billetes porque generalmente estos tienen más valor. Así y todo, algunos amigos me los han traído. Es hermoso esto de coleccionar.
Cuando viví en España por 3 meses, pude reunir las monedas del Euro, en todas sus clasificaciones. El Euro tiene billetes hermosos y están relacionados con la cultura de la humanidad. Estando allá, otro amigo mío que vive en Alemania me envió vía correo postal, en tiempos de Covid-19, monedas antiguas de su país. Aprovechó y hasta me envió un fragmento del “Muro de Berlín”. ¡Qué emocionante! Hoy lo fotografié para que lo vieran en este post.
Una fiel oyente de la radio, Lidia, que es un nombre de flor, viajó a Katar, pues es enfermera y cumplió la misión de ir hasta allá a sanar a los enfermos de Covid. A su regreso, me trajo la serie completa de monedas y billetes. ¡Qué moneda tan hermosa, qué billetes tan coloridos!
Por raro que parezca, con la colección que más trabajo he pasado es con la cubana. He logrado juntar las monedas usadas antes de 1959, como el billete que ven, que data de 1954. Me lo han intentado comprar, pero no lo vendo. En Cuba, antes de 2020, circulaban 2 tipos de moneda: el peso cubano y el denominado CUC (también un peso cubano). Este último ya no circula, pero conservo toda la serie de monedas.
Otras monedas que tengo pertenecen a México, Los Estados Unidos, Chile, Perú, Uruguay, Guatemala y Venezuela. Aunque me las han regalado de forma conjunta, trabajo en mis tiempos libres en su clasificación. No es nada fácil.
Debo googlear la descripción de la moneda para poder identificar su país. No resulta fácil. De igual forma, cada vez que sé de alguien conocido que viaja a otro país, siempre trato de pedirle el favor de contribuir con mi colección.
Una amiga mía colecciona piedras, y cuando supo del fragmento que tengo del “Muro de Berlín”, ha deseado comprarlo o que yo lo fragmente en dos, pero no lo haría, por el valor que le concedo a los regalos de mis amigos. También he contribuido con colecciones de piedras, cactus, lapiceros, lápices.
De acuerdo a lo que he visto, en Cuba se coleccionan, entre otros objetos: sellos postales, cactus, lápices, bolígrafos, libros, discos, casetes, latas de refresco (me encantaría lograr una de estas), pomos de perfume, botellas de colores, tazas…
