Greetings wonderful friends, on #crossculture, i hope we all are doing good and blessed. I welcome you all to my blog, am glad to join this weekly prompt.
During my service as a corper in a community at the Western part of the country Nigerian, ekiti state to be precise, made me to know that there are neighbors that sticks better than blood relative. There are good neighbors, don't pray to meet the bad ones
After the one month National youth service corp (NYSC) orientation training at the camp, we went to our primary place of assignment (PPA). So sent to one of local government in the state while some of my friends i met at the camp were sent to the capital city. Though i was very worried and i sent to the local government, I don't have any choice than to accept my fate and hope for a favorable journey on stay at PPA.
From the camp I moved to my primary place of assignment, i met the proprietor of the school were i was assigned, i was so happy the way she welcomed me and she showed me around. In my mind I said wow this land will favor.
The teachers were friendly and the students, i was so happy even though am from their tribe, i don't speak nor understand their language.
The next day, i went to hunt for an accomodation, i was luck to get accomodation at the community's ruler sister house, she knowing that i was a corper who came to serve in their community gave a me warm welcome and offered me one year free accomodation to stay till am done with my service. With that i was so happy.
When i moved in the compound i met beautiful and lovely neighbors, they way welcomed me for the first time marvelled me, they were hailing me like a a vip corper, the children in compound helped me with my luggages. I felt very happy and welcomed.
In the evening two of my neighbors brought food for me to welcome me.
As time goes on, within a month i became familiar and more friendly with my neighbors, the school were i was service, my fellow corp memebers and the community at large, there's this couples that in live in compound and they we attend the same church, just like turn to be more than neighbors but more like a family, i go to their house and thieir children comes to stay with when they are not around. We eat together, go church today and almost do things together. There's this other neighbor that always comes to check on me.
There was a time i feel sick, my neighbors truely showed me that the were good neighbors no doubt. The way pamper, cooked, do my laundry and checked on me until i was back on my fit, made me speechless. The love and care our massive.
The community was not left behind, any time am passing or coming back from ppa, they will be hailing me, "aunty corper", "beautiful corper", and even when i want to buy food stuff from the women in the community, the pack the food stuff or put more extra. Being a community that do farming well, their farm products like yam, plantain and peppers, i never buy them for one day in the market, i always get them as gifts from them.
As a part to thank my neighbors and commounity so as to return their kind gesture, i offered do a free lesson for the children in the community, three times in the week in the evening and i also join my fellow corp members in community development
At the end of my service year, i wish it shouldn't end, the school where i did my PPA organize a sent forth party, the church were i worship also a did a sent forth party for me, my good and lovely neighbors were not left behind. The gifts were much that room was choked up with presents.
The day I was leaving the community, some of the children were crying that I should not go and the couples that took me in as their own family, we all cried. Till date I still speak with these my lovely couples and neighbors for you know how was bond was.
Are there still good neighbors or with one or two experience you had with the bad ones, has it made you not to believe that there are still good ones. Do you have a good relationship with your neighbors or do you isolates. I love to see comments.
