Good morning and welcome to my page this morning. It's a pleasure to be with you again and to share some something so dear to my heart that had made me the man I am today.
It's the story of my father, my hero, my mentor.
A lot about him impacted on my life which I would like to talk about. :
HIS DETERMINATION
HIS HARD WORK
HIS DISCIPLINE
Let me tell you more about each of them and how it has impacted on me and the benefits thereof.
DETERMINATION.
As a young Man growing up in the mist of other male siblings without a female, he vowed that his mum will never lack in anything house work that a female child would ordinarily do. From farm work to cooking and decorating of the house with different paintings as houses then where made of mod and children mostly female will use charcoal to paint it and other colours from certain leaf. This earned him the nikename ( nwagbogho mma ya) meaning his mother's daughter.
Learning this about my dad moved me to take up any responsibility no matter the nature not minding what people around would say or think about it. I also learnt to try different skills no matter how challenging it might seem and be focused on achieving the result.
HARD WORK.
Being that he came from a polygamous family, and most men as at then had no much time for their wives, it was on up to some children to help their mothers in their farm work because the men are only interested in anything about yarm. Other crops like cassava, corn, melon and vegetables are the responsibility of the women and her children. So he was determined to do his best in these other aspect ensuring that his mother planted them in good time to enjoy a bountiful harvest.
Learning this about him, I was determined to start early enough in life to work hard to support the family and with that mindset, my dad got me a grinding mill which I operated as a side hustle to get some money to care for my needs while schooling and also assisting the family somehow too. I haven't totally relied on anyone not even my parents when I could do something to help myself and others. This made me work more closely with my father that we were like best friends. I remember working with in the renovation of his first house he built while planning his wedding as a young hard working man before most of his mates then
Just like him, I always think ahead of times and make necessary moves to ensure I don't come to a standstill at anytime.
HIS DISCIPLINE.
He was able to achieve some great things in life because he was a disciplined person and always has a goal clearly in mind and work towards it no matter the cost. With his little job he was able to train all 8 of us to a responsible adults. Sometimes he had to let go of some personal comfort but would always make time to have a nice treat for himself and the family at large. Learning this from him, I also set goals and work towards it without allowing anything to interfere with it. Happily I was able to get my first ride which had been a part of my income now.
It was indeed a great pleasure and privilege to have a father like him. If I have to choose again I would still choose him as my father. It's sad that death took him away from me at a point we were going to relax and really enjoy all our hard work. But am happy that I have never forgotten all his fine examples and to this day, I still see his personality in myself and others who knew him attest to this till today. I look forward to seeing him someday in the future and relate in details how I scaled through thanks to his fine examples.
