I hope hive friends are happy. Thank you Cross culture Community, on this occasion I share my experience following the application process before the marriage process.
From male families to female families, using Central Java culture and Batak Culture. Indonesia has many tribes each tribes have different cultures and customs.
As I have seen, including the Batak and Javanese. Prior to the final stage of marriage,there are several stages that are passed, namely the application process with the aim of ensuring that after a man and woman have known each other.
Then the male family visit the female family to ask if the make is serious about becaming him wife later. On Saturday, Oktober 1,2022, the male family comes from the City of Pemalang and the female family comes the Province of Nort Sumatera has lived in the City of Jakarta for a long time.
Like Javanese culture, family men bring food in the form of cakes,traditional snacks and most importanty two gold rings that have been prepsred.
Male family groups are accepted and welcome to enter, the event process was guided by an event guide then the application process began using Batak culture customs, those present such the elder Batak clan, uncles or "Tulang" of mother and father, great grand children,relatives and other Batak clans.
Application or proposals are not immediately accepted, but ask for consideration from all Tulang(uncles) who are present for consultation, are accepted, whether or not the proposal is in the eldest clan then the woman who is betelnut.
The process after the oldst clan a greed that the proposal was accepted, as a sign of gratitude, giving gifts in the form of tools for prayers, to the uncles(tulang) present.
The next process is form the male family giving money to the female family for shopping at the time of wedding and reception later. Receipt of money with Batak customs brough with a scarf and broughs inside.
Then the ring exchange even, the ring is placed on the finger of the doughter and prospective Son-in-law. This ring is used as a sign of bonding.
The procession was continued by giving a dish of sticky rice to those present as a symbol of family ties. Then closed with a prayer and eating together. The process of the proposal with the two traditional Javanese culture tribes and the Batak tribes taks quite a long time.
This is an experience my it selft in following the application process. The next process is to wait for the time that has been ditermined by the two families for the reception and wedding process later.
