How are you friends, hope you are healthy and happy. Thank you to Cross culture community. I will share experience about "Seserahan"(surrender) in Marriage.
Indonesia with many Islands and many tribes, of course, has different culture, one of which is the Javanese tribe, in holding a wedding these are several cultural and believe processes.
The wedding process has several stages, namely before entering the wedding day, it is for the preparation of the two prospective brides, and on the day of the wedding the "Seserahan" culture or wedding in any culture in Indonesia does not escape the meaning or symbol.
It also happens at Javanese traditional wedding that the offering are not just luggage, not just showing material. Read iness or other think, but a meaning about the effection with of responsibility and hope.
Javanese traditionsl gifts wich are generally not too complicated, mostbof the items carried are the daily necessities of the ride and groom, becsuse the offering is a symbol of the groom's rediness to be responsible for his wife needs.
Hending the offering ceremony on the wedding day is interesting to tell as preserving culture. The first thing follow front the groom's family to visit the bride on the wedding day with her family there is a process of events on the wedding day before the two prospective brides legally become husband and wife which begine with the marriage contract.
Before the process on the marriage ceremony and reception there is an event called "Seserahan"( offering ),where the make family brings and bride. Including at the reception as a symbol of affection, such as bringing jewerly, sandals, and foot wear, groming equipment, a pair of rings, brough a traditional cake.
The items were all neatly and nicely is rapped, what is interesting in the offerings event is that the male family brings household furniture, rice, and noless important to bring a Goat which will be offering in marriage.
Other benefits are for mutual friendship from the two families, the items that are brought for the offering are given to the grooms family, representative from the male family give a welcome raffirmation of the purpose of this offering and then in return the welcome from male families.
The culture processiin of offering ss a medium of friendship is marked by the pisition of rangan from both families in traditional Javanese clothes. Items for offerings in the from wardrobes, bed, rice, goats are given the day before wedding reception.
As for items given as the wedding day such as jewerly, prayer utensils, sandals, groming equipment.a pair of rings, food caless, handed over on the day of the wedding and reception, the culture of each Country in marriage maybe the same but also some are different.
Thank you very much.
