Years ago, traditional games were the backbone of children that while we are it, we don't care about eating or doing other things, the only thing on our minds then was to enjoy ourselves and have fun with other children in the surrounding as we engage in different games...
Technological advancement has really impacted a lot of greatness in the lives of children of nowadays and also at the same time send children into indoor shells that they don't consider the games of the past times fun again....
Children of nowadays now prefer to spend their time indoor playing games on different gadget and that has really hindered a lot of things in their lives, the ability to relate with other kids has been reduced because of the existence and advancement of technology...
Years ago when I was born, technology has advanced then but not as now in this 21st century where children now love playing games on gadgets and tend to forget about the outside world, they prefer spending all day playing different mobile and video games than spending time with their friends playing the traditional games....
In my country the children born in this 21st century are called children with computer brains because it takes them just a little bit of time to know the nooks and crannies of different devices....
My youngest cousin for example, since she was given birth to, she hasn't really mingled with more than 10 friends all of which I know them all very well, why do you think it is that way ???
She is that way because she derives enjoyment and fun from games and that has really reduced her to making just ten friends, when It comes to "TALKING TOM AND ANGELA"...
These two games listed above are her favorite, she never stops crying for her tablet until it runs down, when her tab is unlocked, she knows where all her games are and how to navigate herself to find it...
Is that not strange?? a 5 years old child, navigating a tablet of different uses to play her FAVOURITE' games, is that not a child with computer brain....
Technology advancement has really curbed children of nowadays into depending on devices for fun and enjoyment...
I can remember years ago during my childhood, children of my age don't find fun and enjoyment playing games like talking Angela, talking Tom and all this racing games that we have now, because we believe we can enjoy ourselves from outdoor games and all this with other children in our surrounding...
These games are always what gives us more joy in our childhood, I am going to list some traditional games that are played by children from my country (NIGERIA)...
- SUWE : Oh yeah you might be wondering what kind of traditional game is this because of the name above...
Okay SUWE is a game where you have to draw different lines of any numbers or any shape with a pointed object on the ground and each individual can only partake in this game with one leg raised up and the other used for limping with you throwing a seed( a round flat object) in the beginning of the boxes and taking it on your way back as you move to the next box until you loose ....
This suwe game is mostly played by both genders and it is one of the most played games in my country even till now it legacy still lives on ...
- I CALL ON: This is another beautiful traditional game that is enjoyed in my childhood, it is a game played where you have to draw a circle on the ground and you divide the circles into about at least 4 spaces, depending on the number of children available...
The children will choose different names by which they will be called and it will be written in those spaces with a given mark and the spectator will chant "I call on " repeatedly until he or she calls one of the participants name and others run very far so as not to be catched by the person and if the called name can't catch or meet up with the other children, their mark gets deducted but if the name called caught one of the other participants then the person caught will be deducted of a Mark and slowly when he or she gets to zero, another person will be in while the other person takes over the spectator's seat...
- MILO MASTER: This is another traditional game played in my country, it is a game that involves many children and a situation where they have to form a circle while holding their hand forming a circle and they start moving in circular form singing the song and they have to roll slowly untill it gets faster and faster and they are all falling on the ground and the last child standing will be declared the winner ..
It is a game enjoyed by children and played outdoor and with many children involved...
- TINK TINKO: This is the master of all traditional games in my country, this game can be played anywhere, it is one of the oldest traditional games in Nigeria...
This game is played by two children in different groups and they have to play with their palms while singing the song and played continuously until there is a winner...
It is a very simple game with interesting and enjoyable moments attached...
- HIDE AND SEEK: This game is also one of the oldest traditional game in Nigeria, then we play in uncompleted buildings and not indoors because of space...
It is a game where lots of children have to hide and the some serves as a seeker has too count one to ten and go in search of the other children and anyone seek will be the one to take over and it just goes on and on until we get tired of the game...
I am always the seeker in this game because I don't really know all their hideout so I prefer seeking but as time goes on I became a pro in seeking...
In summary, these games listed above are one of the oldest traditional games played in my country and can be incorporated into recreational activities
In conclusion, I am happy to be taken back to the past to reminisce on my childhood memories and funny moments, I am inviting and
