Hello, My Friends!
Welcome back to emanate artworx. Today, I'd like to share a little portrait study I made in the earlier part of this year. Usually, I like to assign random names to my portraits, but for this one, nothing seemed to fit "quite rightly." So here she is, Miss Anon:

Testing out the coloring. It was an amazing moment 🥲
This portrait was made using the brush called pen (fade), which turned out pretty nicely. It's a simple brush, but also a solid choice that gives a soft-ish result (not too soft tho!) I really like the old photo vibes she's throwing. Like a vintage starlet look. Reference
Initially, I was having issues getting the colors done in a way that was satisfactory. After mentioning that in a group chat, the talented shared a really great tip on how to color very quickly,
Create a grayscale value painting, then add a layer on top, set to blend mode "Overlay" at a low opacity, around 25%. Add your colors on the overlay layer. Voila
Digital art is so awesome in a lot of ways. Tips like this one make it easy to make adjustments and play with different colors, kind of like trying on different outfits. Having the right techniques makes it fun to create...the wrong techniques make for headaches and frustration!
As much fun as it is to learn how to make digital creations, it's hard to say if I prefer digital over traditional. Both have their place in the art world and in the real world. The sensations of using physical materials are a very satisfying part of making traditional art. Until humans are merged or integrated more fully with machines, I think both forms will remain alive. What do you think about the future of the visual arts?
On that note, stay tuned for the third beach scene of my 4-part acrylic painting series! Beach 3, coming soon. 👀
Miss Anon, what should her name be?? 🤔 Thanks for reading! See ya next time. 😎
