It's somewhat of a tradition for me to hit the beach on Australia Day, not in the heat of the day because that's bonkers, but later in the evening when it's a little cooler and the sun is starting to dip, and yesterday was no exception. We headed to the beach which is very close to where we live and wandered around until only a thin strip of orange stained the horizon.
It was 37°C yesterday, January 26th which is the day on which the country celebrates Australia Day which marks the landing of the First Fleet in 1788 which is when the country as we know it began to take shape. Hot is a typical temperature for this time of year in Australia (although it gets hotter yet) so I waited until around 19:30 to head to the beach when it was only around 32°C. There were loads of others there, quite usual for Australia Day and it was a nice vibe with loads of families and couples enjoying the weather and the location.
I snapped a few photos as I walked along and figured I'd share a few here; they're pretty shit but I'm ok with it and I don't give a shit what other people think of them so it's all good.
Today is a public holiday for Australia Day, that's right, because Australia Day fell on Sunday the public holiday is held on the Monday to make it a long weekend...no complaints there. It's going to be hot today too, it's around 08:30 in the morning and already 34°C but that's not going to stop me from enjoying the first public holiday of the year; I've always found it's best to get the best out of every day as one never knows if it's the last we'll have.
