Hey everyone, my name is @SumatraNate.

I am a native English speaker from the United States who has a passion to help people become good communicators. While living in Indonesia for more than 10 years, I taught conversational English.

Trust me! I understand how hard it is to learn a new language, from both my experience and through the experience of my students.

Communication is an important part of being human. Since it impacts our everyday lives, when need to understand the goal of communication. I believe that the goal of communication is to “hear and be heard.”

• “hear” = carefully listening to what other people say
• ”be heard” = speaking in such a way that people understand our message

The ultimate goal is to understand one another.

With that in mind, let’s LEAP right in – Learn, Encourage, Acknowledge, and Practice.

LEARN

We had a great group of words this week. If you have not had a chance to review our most recent words, I am sharing their meanings below:

• Symbiosis (noun) - a mutually beneficial relationship between two organisms, people, or groups
• Enhance (verb) - to improve or make better
• Credible (adjective) – believable
• Talisman (noun) – lucky charm

For example sentences, be sure to check out @Definitions on D.Buzz. I will be sharing a new word four days a week – Monday through Thursday.

@EnglishWithNate is a one-stop shop for all the resources I am creating, including the words of the week and videos that help you practice listening and improve comprehension.

ENCOURAGE

Remember that I know how hard it is to learn a new language. It is really challenging!

My encouragement for the week is “Be willing to make mistakes!”

We are all human. That means that no one is perfect. We all make mistakes, especially when speaking in another language. You may feel embarrassed when you make mistakes, but it is better for you to try and make a mistake, than to not try at all. Mistakes are opportunities to grow and become better.

You can do this! And don’t forget, I am walking with you on this journey!

ACKNOWLEDGE

I have been really impressed by the encouragement I have received from the @DBuzz community. There are two people who have shown up consistently to practice English with me at @Definitions.

A big shout out to Hive account@chrisrice and Hive account@iamraincrystal for all of the great example sentences you have made. Keep up the great work! You helped me keep pressing on in the early days of creating on @DBuzz.

I want to showcase English learners who are practicing, improving, and becoming better communicators. I hope that I will be able to add your name here soon.
