The pyrenees has always been a place that seems to interest me, because its kind of obscure, people talk about the French, Swiss or Austrian alps but I never hear much about the mountains of Spain.
Despite living in catalonia on and off for the past 5 years I have never properly taken a trip there mainly because I don't have a vechile and to take the train is at the very least a 3 hour journey one way. Accomadation is expensive so I've been reluctant to spend the night there. In the summer camping is possible and more economical but I often spend the summers away from Spain due to work requirements. But im very tempted to call that off one summer and just camp wild in the pyrenees mountains...
Camping in nature always make me feel more connected and MORE ALIVE
Sleeping on the ground, listening to the sounds of the movement in the leaves of plants and trees, the rustling of animals, the tweets of bats and birds, all bring more closer to aliveness
I decided that it was time to see what I was missing, i seemed to be up for the long journey 6 hour round trip, probably because we are still in the sagatarrius season and its a gemini full moon, I really was itchy to get out of normality and enjoy the vibe of something new and unknown. Traveling to somewhere I've never been before always excites me and makes me feel even
MORE ALIVE!
And I love train journeys and am so thankful that there is a train at all, the ticket was reasonable price €9 from barcelona to ribes de freser, this leg of the journey is about 2 hours and gradually increased altitude, the train chugs through gaps in the valley and at times its quite windy, extremely beautiful scenery, golden trees and snow cap mountains, medieval villages and crystal clear rivers.
By the time I got to ribes de freser it was already about 3 in the afternoon, this is because I made a stop half way to change trains and experience an old town called: vic (more about that in an upcoming post)
By the time I got to ribes the light looked like it was dipping fast. The shortest days now the sun set around 5pm but here it was going behind the mountain slightly earlier, the afternoon light was gorgeous and lit up the rustic mountain architecture.
Whilst walking around the village I found a train museum, it seem the train is a crucial part of this village, and is what takes people to the ski zone, its not so much a resort but more like a ski station, you take the venicular railway 3 stops and you arrive at vall de nuria slopes right on the border with France and I assume the highest points in the pyrenees where snow remains on the tops of the mountains.
As you can see there was no snow in ribes Town. The rivers were flowing 3 rivers cross this place, the water is clean and healthy, so much so that bottled watered comes from the springs here and is sold across catalonia, I often buy it and its beautiful.
I could really feel the ionisation in the air and was making me feel so good and alive, I decided to take a hike in the nearby forest.
Everywhere I walked there were gorgeous views, of craggy rocks, trees and rustic buildings
There were also signs explaining about walking routes and the natural area, some areas are natural parks, there are wild animals, its truly a paradise away from civilization.
What do you think about the pyrenees, would like to visit? Would u like to live there?
I'm thinking this would be a wonderful place to live, maybe we can start a regenerative community here?
