Yesterday was a nice day up here in Igloolik, Nunavut. It was roughly 0°C with a gentle breeze which made for a wonderful day to hop on the snowmobile and head across the Arctic ocean to the Coxe Islands Northwest of town. The "island" is known as Avajja to the local Inuit and was the original place where the community was going to be established. But the Canadian Government opted to use Igloolik Island due to its deeper bay.
After zooming around for a few hours and taking some photos of the scenery and some lichen and natural petroleum seeps, I stopped near a valley and took my helmet off to relax. As I finished pulling my camera out of its bag I noticed a flash of white out of the corner of my eye. I thought I saw the tail end of a rabbit and that was that, but a few seconds later this beautiful Arctic Fox popped its head over the rocks it ran behind.
He was definitely sketched out by me. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed in some previous photos taken that day that I probably got a picture of the foxes supper. Resting just slightly to the left of this big Boulder is an arctic hare. This photo was taken about 200 meters away from the fox.
