When the rains come, the forests of Costa Rica are filled with a large number of species of fungi of various sizes and colors. Some of them are highly poisonous, others hallucinogens, but a large amount are edible to humans. This is the case with Laccaria amethystina, a beautiful purple fungus that grows in clumps on the forest floor. The image was made in San Gerardo de Dota, whose high-altitude forests and oak groves are ideal for the development of this species.
