Wake up and
smell the flowers
or don’t.
Why make the mistake
of believing you have to?
When life gives you lemons
make lemonade,
follow the grind,
and set up your stand.
But maybe
you could grow a tree
instead.
Carpe diem
seize the day.
But that’s a lie
we were forced to learn.

Time

and so is rest.
color outside the lines
or within them
fit someone’s idea of art
if you want to.
Or don’t color at all
because why do you have to?
I love photography and poetry. They are amazing ways to express yourself and how you are feeling and how you see the world. Art is a beautiful example of how to share feelings when words that we speak to our friends and family fail us. I have been into poetry longer than I have been doing photography. They were such pure ways I could express my own feelings to myself. Getting it onto paper, or a phone in this case, really helped solidify my feelings.
But despite me speaking about poetry, it’s really photography that is much harder to explain. Though it heavily correlates to poetry. It is a pure expression of my visual feelings about a subject. It’s what I see when I look at the world around me. I don’t just see a flower, I see the colors burning into my mind. The gentle blowing of the leaves or petals in the wind. The structure of what is around it. And I am a complete amateur. So often, my skills fail to capture what my mind sees.
But that does not stop me. It only encourages me to keep trying. Maybe I need a different medium. Or maybe I need to learn more specific skills. Whatever the case is, I will learn day by day. Picture by picture.
I was always encouraged and guided by my family not to do art growing up. They always wanted me to work in the science field. In STEM. I finally decided that it is not for me. That art, in its essence, is what I want. Even if I do not make a professional career of it.
Please, seek your dreams. What is it that you want to do?

As always, thanks for listening to my story and me rambling about stuff. I always appreciate every interaction, no matter how small it may be. I love the Hive community and all of you who put effort into making it a good place to be in. Thanks so much!
