When Joshua was about to begin his ministry, God revealed to him the true path of life he needed to follow in order to experience success and prosperity. This path was clearly defined: Joshua was to be a student of God's Word.
The Lord instructed him to study and meditate on the Word Day and night; in other words, to make God's Word his lifestyle. There are certain qualities and habits that inevitably lead to success, just as there are lifestyles that, no matter how hard one tries, lead nowhere.
Success, therefore, is not a destination you reach someday; success is a lifestyle. The Bible tells us that, there are two paths in life — the broad way leads to destruction and the narrow path that leads to eternal life.
The narrow path requires focus and discipline, while the broad way is easy and crowded. That is why few people reach the top of the ladder of success while most remain at the bottom. Those who rise have paid a price that others either do not know about or are unwilling to pay.
Our body may resist the disciplines required for success, such as consistent study of God's Word, prayer, fasting and obedience to God's commands. Yet, true success demands that you bring your body under subjection and live a disciplined life that glorifies God.
