The church in Ephesus, in Revelation 2:1-5, though they were active and doctrinally sound, something crucial was missing; they had abandoned their first love. Their passion for Christ had grown cold. What once burned brightly was now flickering. They were becoming indifferent and half-hearted in their devotion.
A similar rebuke was given to the church in Laodicea when God said in Revelations 3:14-19:
"I know your works that you are neither cold nor hot... So then, because you are lukewarm... I will spit you out of my mouth. Because you say, 'I am rich... and have need of nothing 'and do not realize that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked... be zealous therefore, and repent".
In both passages, the call to repentance stands out as the key solution. It's a call to return, to renew, to rekindle the fire of love for Christ. When the Church is ablaze with love for Christ, its influence naturally spreads, it "enlarges its coast."
God is a big God, and He desires that His Church, you and I, live with bold faith, big vision and burning passion for His kingdom.
