Tithing started in the old Testament when Abraham paid tithes to Melchizedek as seen in Genesis 14:18-20.
In Malachi 3:10, the Israelites were later urged to pay tithes for the support of the work in the temple and for the Levites.
Jesus stressed more on love,faith ,mercy and obedience over giving customs in the New Testament.
We as Christians are instructed to give voluntarily, not because we are forced to or grudgingly.
The early church were generous to one another, they help one another by this acts of generosity.
Presently, the Bible still instructs us to tithe, but this time we are to do it cheerfully, faithfully and joyfully.
The blessings of God are with those who give cheerfully not out of compulsion.
