After the devil had suffered two defeats from Jesus, one would think that the devil should give up. But this was not the case. He took Jesus to the Pinnacle of the temple in Jerusalem. Here, he wanted to show Jesus that. he too could quote from the Scriptures.
He requested Jesus to throw Himself down from the high point if He was the Son of God. In fact, he urged Him to do this by quoting Psalm 9111-12 which says, " For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone." Jesus promptly replied the devil that ' It has been said, you shall not tempt the Lord your God" ( Deuteronomy 6:16 ). The devil had had enough and left in shame.
From the Bible, Jesus teaches us that no matter how long temptation lasts or how many times it occurs, believers need to stand firm on the word of God, and resist. Jesus won decisively over the devil. May you also win your battles against the devil, and may we rely on the word of God in your heart whenever temptations come! As we resist the devil in our hearts, he must flee after a while ( 1 Peter 5:8-9a ).
