Stopping bad things is not within human power.
Romans 7:19-20
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Even Apostle Paul confessed to it. So you can not stop doing bad unless you drive away the spirit of sin in you. It IBS the sin in us that causes us to sin.
So for us to stop, we must first of all be forgiven of our sins by God and be baptized.
Acts 22:16
16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
It is the first and the most important step in driving away the spirit of sin.
