Carnality as simple as the word can be actually encompasses a lot of things beyond which we can imagine of.Carnality is an interpretation of walking in things pertaining to the things of the flesh instead of the things of the spirit or let me say things that surround our fleshy desire much more than the spiritual desire.
Materialism can be categorised as carnality if so much obsessed with it that it takes the place of God in your life. Does it mean we wouldn't live in the world? No, of course we will certainly do Does it mean we will not need some material things in the world? Of course we will. It becomes carnal when it does not only take the place of God but prevent the place of God in one's life and life. It follows after the pattern of the fleshy desire and wants much more than the spirit wants and needs.
So many times we find it actually hard to understand the differences between been carnal and been spiritual and we tend to miss it together. Carnality is in the world and just as we are in the world, we should not pursue after things that will make us carnal. What do I mean by that? Our thought can make us actually carnal if we feast on what we should not feast on. In fact our clothes and the materials things we owned and pursue after can actually make us carnal if we only go after the things that is not in alignment with the things of God, then at the end of the day, we find ourselves doing what we should not.
When we talk about been spiritual in another case, we actually mean going after the things of the spirits much more. Going after things that will make our spirit man to grow and develop much more than our flesh man. We should understand as a Christian that your major aim is to always find things that will make your spirit man to grow and not your fleshy man. That is just the key.
When you begin to make your attention to actually focus on the things of the spirit instead of the things of the flesh, you will discover that gradually you are beginning to live based on the spirit making you more spiritual and less carnal.
