The first time I heard this question was, does God desire it all; evil included to happen? I was lost in perplexity, and was somewhat troubled in heart. God is good, loving, and holy, then how can evil be? Does it mean He planned it? Or does it mean He allows it? The moment I started thinking profoundly and reading the Bible I began to comprehend this matter in a more honest and harmonious manner.
The fact is that God does not want evil. Bible expressly indicates that God is good and pure. In James 1:13 there is a statement, God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. This is to say that evil is not a part of the nature of God.
Sin or wickedness is not created by God. His will always smacks of righteousness, love, and truth. Personally, this makes me feel more at ease since it makes me remember that God does not turn his back on me but that He is on my side.
Yet, I also found out that God does not prevent things to occur even painful or evil ones. This is not due to the fact that He desires evil, but He granted human beings free will. Since creation, in the Garden of Eden, individuals had an option to follow or not follow God.
However, regrettably, sin came to this world with disobedience. Gen. 6:5, says, Every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. This reveals that evil is a choice of human beings rather than that of God.
There are times when I cannot see the purpose of suffering being permitted by God. However, then I recall the verse of Romans 8: 28, and it says, all things work together to those people who love God.
This verse does not imply that everything is good, but God is able to make out of the bad things something worthy of existence. I have experienced this in my life, how suffering has taught me, moulded me, and made me closer to God.
Also, God is patient. In the bible, 2 Peter 3: 9, it says, the Lord is not willing that any of us should perish but that all should repent. This shows His mercy. He gives time to change people although there is evil.
Finally, I think that God does not desire evil, still, he tolerates it due to human freedom and His bigger plan. This knowledge brings me a sense of peace. Although I do not know all, I believe that God is still good, still in control and still working behind the scenes to the better end.
