Another issue that I have contemplated on is whether the Holy Week is biblical. The Holy Week is the time during which many Christians find the time to remember about the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It consists of such events as Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. These events are indeed extremely significant; however, when I learned, that the Bible does not ask us to observe a certain tradition of a Holy Week.
As I read the bible, I observe that the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus is very well written. Indicatively, in John 19:30, Jesus said, It is finished, before He released His spirit. This depicts the extent to which His sacrifice was complete.
As well, in Luke 22:19, Jesus said to His disciples, This do in remembrance of me. It informs me that the command is given to commemorate Him, at least during the Lord Supper, but there is not a reference to an annual celebration like the Holy Week.
I also realized that a lot of traditions observed in the Holy Week do not exist in the Bible. Jesus cautioned that in Mark 7:8, He said, For laying away the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men.
This verse makes me careful. I do not want to do the same thing as it is possible because it is popular and accepted. My worship should be founded on what God actually commands.
Nonetheless, I also believe that it is quite important to remember about the death and resurrection of Jesus. In 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4, it states that, Christ died that we might not have our sins according to the scriptures and he rose up the third day.
It is this fact that we base our faith on. So although Holy Week is not a commanded one, the message that is conveyed in it is so real and strong.
However, regarding myself, I think that the key is the sincerity of the hearts. John 4: 24 in the Bible states, God is a spirit: and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit, and in truth. This again reminds me that God does not require special dates or seasons, but authentic and genuine worship on a daily basis.
To sum up, Holy Week as a custom is not revealed in the Bible literally, though events that it attempts to recall are well presented in the Scripture. In my case, I prefer to pay more attention to the obedience to God and remembering Christ not only once a year, but every minute. Such is what I think is the proper honoring of Him.
Thank You So Much For Reading My Post.
