When I consider the reality of the fact that we were created in the likenesses of God, I feel unique and accountable. In the bible Gen. 1:27, it is written, So God made man in His own image, in the image of God made He Him. This implies that I am not a mere creature. I am the bearer of something (God) His likeness, his nature, and his purpose.
The fact that I am meant to be in the image of God does not imply that I resemble Him physically, but rather that I resemble Him in terms of character. God is a loving, kind, patient and rightful God.
Therefore, I can love, forgive, and do what is right as well. There are occasions that I fail and I make mistakes but this reality makes me aware that I am supposed to live better. It helps me to develop and become more like Him each day.
Low mood or insignificance is sometimes experienced by me, and I find myself reminded of this to have a sense of hope. In Psalm 139:14, he says, I will glorify thee: because I am wonderfully and fearfully made.
This makes me know that I have a valuable life. I am not a mistake. God made me purposefully and with care. God sees my value even in the eyes of those who do not recognize my worth.
Simultaneously, this fact also trains me on how to treat other people. Other people are, according to the fact that I am created in the image of God. That is to say that I should not despise anyone or mistreat others.
James 3:9 says that we must not curse those people who have been created in the image of God. This reminds me that when it is not easy, I should be kind, patient, and respectful.
On a personal level, this lesson has transformed my perception of myself and other people. I also attempt to be more conscious of my deeds and speech. I question myself, Do I thee reflect God In what I do? Sometimes, the response is no but I will continue giving it a go since I know that is my calling.
Furthermore, I have concluded that being made in the image of God is something beautiful that makes my life meaningful. It reminds me that I am cherished, precious and called to live the life of showing the goodness of God. and even in my infirmities I hang on to this fact, knowing that God is still at work in me.
