The bible teaches us to love and care for the needs of our parents, siblings and friends. God loves everyone and he wants us to also love people in our environments. God talked about giving from the old testament down to the new testament.
The law given to Israel included provisions for the poor, widows, and strangers, showing that God’s people were expected to create a community where no one was left in desperate need. This reflects God’s own character as compassionate and just, desiring that His people mirror His care in practical ways.
But the bible warns us to give with wisdom so that people won't take advantage of our generosity. The bible says those who have strength to work should always do so, so that you won't be a burden to another person.
Financial responsibility is therefore twofold: caring for one’s own household while also remaining open-handed toward those in need. This balance prevents both selfishness and dependency, encouraging a healthy and sustainable form of support within the community of believers.
