Relationship skills and acts of kindness are essential in reaching people for Christ. Preaching the gospel itself is also vital, especially when circumstances are difficult.
In the early Church, after Stephen was martyred for his faith, intense persecution broke out in Jerusalem. Believers fled for their lives, often leaving behind their possessions and everything else. Yet, something extraordinary happened:
Acts 11: 19
Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled... preaching the word.
Even while running for safety, they looked for opportunities to share the gospel. Their priority was not self-preservation but the salvation of others. Most of us might choose to focus on praying for safety, which is good but the mindset of Christ goes further: reaching souls, even in hardship.
The early church had nothing. They were displaced, threatened and vulnerable. Yet, rather than complain or hide, they were on a mission, bringing people to Jesus wherever they went
