Welcome to today's Bible lesson review. In this first part of this series Brother Eli Soriano explains what the Bible says about regaining and keeping the trust, and love of parents after making mistakes.
How can you regain the trust and love of your parents after you must have gone wrong?
According to Brother Eli, our manners and behavior are important in winning the hearts of our parents. His submission is based on the word of God as recorded in the Bible. Moreover, when you consider the ways of men towards their offspring, it's hard to find parents who do not like their children irrespective of how they behave or look.
That's one issue the Lord Jesus Christ uses to teach us in the book of Matthew 7:9-11. Let's look at it!
"Or what man is there of you, whom if his son asks bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he asks a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" Matthew 7:9-11 (KJV)
Is there any man who would give his child a stone instead of bread? Or a serpent Instead of fish? I guess no man will do that no matter the character of the child. Even if a child is disrespectful or has physical problems, a parent will still love the child because he is their child.
Now, like those people in the days of Jesus on earth, the Lord is asking us a question. The question is "if ye then being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"
This is simple, the love of the father is greater than the love of men. If evil men could give good gifts to their children, how much more can a loving father not give better gifts to his children? God is a loving father both to the good and the bad. He loves all the same way.
**"That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." Matthew 5:45 (KJV) **
This is the nature of the Father in Heaven, He loves evil people the same way He loves good people. There is no variableness in Him. He made the sun shine both on good and evil, the same thing with the rain. Both the good and evil enjoy the good things from the heavenly father.
That's the character and nature of the heavenly father which is our God, and by creation, every man instinctively has this nature and character in them. No man will hate his children even if that man is evil.
The book of Luke 6:35 further expresses the nature of God. It says, "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil."
He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. That's the character of God to His children which by instinct resides in every man, the spirit of loving one's offspring even if they be evil or unthankful as the Bible says.
Instinct dictates a parent or parents' love towards their offspring because that instinct came from God the loving father of humanity. However, it's shocking to see most parents hate their children because of some problem or something they did wrong. How can you win the heart of your parents if you are in that condition?
The Bible would help us in this matter. Let's read the book of First Peter 3:1.
**"Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;" 1 Peter 3:1 (KJV) **
If any woman has an unbelieving husband, the council of the Bible is for her to submit to her husband and behave the way it is expected of her, if the husband does not obey the words of God, he may be won by the behavior of the wife.
The lesson here is that our behavior and character are what it takes to win the heart of a person. Good behavior and manners can win the heart of people. So to gain the heart of parents, children need to put up good behavior and manners. Even if you have done wrong in the past, your good behavior can easily make a parent forget about the hunt and love his or her children.
