This is the most interesting teaching I have had to listen to on the subject of forgiveness. Although this lesson was done about 9 months ago, I found it very intriguing and very important to everyone who called his or herself a Christian.
The subject of forgiveness is an important aspect of the Christian life. Unfortunately, this is where most people have problems in their Christian service. Brother Eli started the teaching with a question; "why is it for all the things that are forgettable is it the bad things that they have done to you that are not very easy to forget?"
In this first series of teaching, Brother, Eli gave us two reasons why we find it hard to forget the evil people done to us. The first reason according to Brother Eli is the lack of love or the absence of love. I couldn't agree less because if we have that love taught by our lord Jesus Christ through His apostles to us, we can forget everything even the most bitter experience from somebody who offended us or sinned against us with that love.
According to the scripture, love covers a multitude of sins. If we have the genuine love of God taught by the lord Jesus Christ in us, we will be able to forgive and forget whatever evil or bad things people did to us.
While there are things that are so easy to forget, it's quite funny that in all, evil things are the ones we keep remembering. Why of all the things you cannot forget, it's something ugly or something evil that you may remember? The answer is simply because you do not have God's love in you.
A second reason why we find it hard to forget the evil done to us according to Brother Eli is that there is a force that brings that memory back to your mind and that force or spirit is not of God. If that spirit was of God, it would work in line with the attitude of God towards Sin and Sinners.
The attitude of God towards Sin and Sinners is revealed to us in the book of Hebrews chapter 8 verse 12, which says...
"For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more" i
This is an inspiring and hopeful pronouncement of the lord in the Bible. Bear in mind the one talking is the lord, the most powerful of all. The only one who retains memory and remembers everything that happens, both in the past, in the present, and the future. The God with a perfect memory said "I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, their sins, and their iniquities will I remember no more".
This is fascinating! imagine someone with a perfect memory to forget all our sins and our iniquities. That is something great that is something beyond the comprehension of humans.
Apostle Paul, describing the attitude of God, called it the Unfathomable riches of His love in the book of Romans 11:33 (KJV)
"O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!"
The death of the richest both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God are unsearchable, and His judgment and his ways past finding out. That means the depth of God's love and wisdom is unsearchable and unreachable. We cannot by our thinking understand all the depths of God's riches, love, wisdom, knowledge, hope, and understanding. However, it is clear in the bible that God will forget the evil that we do.
Now, come to think of it, somebody with a perfect memory promise to forget all our sins and our iniquities, and it is very easy for him to do. But we who have no perfect memories find it hard to forget the evil done to us. There's a force responsible, that keeps bringing bad memories to our minds. Humans can forget things easily even the most pleasant things, but when it comes to ugly things that happen between you and someone you don't find it easy to forget. The reason is that there is a force that brings back to your memory the evil, and the ugly things that had happened for the hatred and bitterness to remain in your heart.
And while that bitterness and hatred remain you are under the charge of being a murderer according to the Bible in 1 John 3:15 (KJV) Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Therefore, it's important as Christians to learn the attitude of God towards Sin and Sinners so that we can be able to forgive and forget like our God who forgives and forget our Sins.
