The real meaning of hearing is to understand, assimilate and to receive. But people may hear but do not listen. One thing is to hear, another thing is to listen and obey what you heard.
There are people who hear but do not listen to God's word, they have turned themselves into idols by having ear but do not listen to God's teaching and commandments. Their ears have been blocked spiritually by the power of devil.
All they do is to go against the ordinance and teachings of Christ.
Idolatry is not only bowing down to idols, but also fornication and other forms of earthly lust. As christians, we must follow the teachings of Christ by hearing and also paying good attention to assimilate what we have heard. We must not allow ourselves to be like the idols, who have ear but can't hear. Let's not only be hearers but let's us be doers of the word.
