LESSONS LEARNED:
Bro Eli started by admonishing us to prove all things, but hold fast to what is good, reading from 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
In Romans 12:9, the Bible admonishes us to abhor evil, but cleave to good.
We know that false prophets are already in the world, teaching false doctrines.
Some claim that Christ is a mere man, some say Christ is a prophet. So we have to study our Bible in order to know what is good, to cleave unto.
THE RIGHT MANNER OF PRAYING, WHICH IS THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST.
In proverbs 15:8, the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to God, but God is pleased with the prayers of those that are righteous.
So for us to pray for God to accept, we must be doers of righteousness.
Matthew 6:7 warns us against using vain repetition when praying.
Our God is not deaf not to hear us.
There's no point repeating the same prayers when God can hear us.
In Isaiah 65:24, the Bible confirms that before we call, God shall answer, and while we're yet speaking, he'll hear us.
So there's no need for repetition in prayers.
We also learn from Ecclesiastes 5:1-2 that we shouldn't be rash with our mouths, but to keep our words few.
We shouldn't pray to show off that we can pray.
Prayer is a private discussion with God, so we shouldn't make public show of it.
We should pray in our closet, not on the streets, for God who sees in secret shall reward us openly.
We should also avoid lengthy prayers.
When we stand to pray, we should forgive our offenders, for God to forgive us.
We shouldn't be like the hypocrites that always stand to pray.
We should worship and reverence God by kneeling down, bowing our face to the ground while praying.
If we could bow to honour our fellow men, we should always kneel down to honour God while praying.
Men shouldn't have a covering on their heads while praying, to respect Christ who is the head of man, while women should cover their heads while praying, to show a sign of submission to the authorities over them.
