If there is a particular act God has commanded every Christian, it is the fact that we should do good to everyone. It is one of the most direct and even simple teachings in the Christiandom but not the easy to practice.
Whenever doing good to men is mentioned, people are always tempted to limit it to mean doing good to people who are kind to us but that's not so. It actually means you are showing love, kindness and patience to even people that might not treat you well and that is one of the things that makes doing good to all men quite so difficult.
The Bible reminds us in Galatians 6:10, “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men.” This shows that doing good is not selective; it is a responsibility for every believer.
Looking at my experience, there were days I have actually feel so tired and even hurt by others. It was actually so difficult to respond back with goodness because whenever you remember what you have done to those people and what they did to you.
But I always hold onto God word in Matthew 5:44, “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you. One of the things the word of God always do to me is to rise above my challenges, above my struggles and always act in love. I have learnt in recent years that doing good is not really about how I feel but it is about my obedience to God's commandments.
Doing good to all men is a daily decision. It requires a sincere heart and a willingness to follow God’s word. I may not always get it right, but I keep trying because I know that every act of goodness pleases God. Through this, I believe I can become a better person and a true reflection of His love.
