There are many in this world that desire the future. I sometimes also reflect my future and wonder about what will be happening tomorrow. I reflect on my life, family, work and dreams. At times, I am scared because I don't know what lies ahead. I have come to understand, however, that only God is the one who knows the future, through the word of God. In Isaiah 46:10, the Bible makes it clear that God knows the end from the beginning. Well this verse reminds me that God knows us better than we know ourselves and that what will happen in our lives is already known to Him.
Gone were the days of worrying so much about tomorrow. I wanted to know whether my plans would work or I will encounter any issues. But I knew that excessive concern could take peace out of the heart. Matthew 6:34, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall bring its own troubles.” This has taught me that God wants me to trust in Him daily and not be ruled by fear.
I had a time in my life when I was unsure about my future post school. I didn't know what was happening to me in my life. I prayed to God with tears and cried for His help. Little by little, I found calm in my heart. I knew that although I don't know what the future holds, God knows and is preparing it for me. God's plans for us are always good, as written in the Bible, "For I know the thoughts that I think towards you – thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end" (Jeremiah 29:11).
As believers we should not rely on the reading of the future by fortunetellers or ungodly means. Rather, we are to pray, obey God and trust His plans. We don't know what will happen in the future, but God knows. This is a great source of reassurance and hope for me on a daily basis.
