Our faith is based on understanding and because of that it is important that we ask questions and get better understanding about the will of God in our lives as Christians. Brother Eli Soriano have taken out time to answer some of the questions that might be confusing us from the bible.
Today we would be talking about forgiveness of sins and what God says about sin in general. sin is any word, thought, or action that falls short of God's perfect standard. The Apostle Paul defines it clearly in Romans 3:23: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Sin isn't merely breaking rules, it's a condition of the human heart that separates us from our Creator
We see sin manifest in various forms like pride, lust, greed, hatred, dishonesty, idolatry, and rebellion against God. Sin entered the world from Adam and Eve's disobedient and it has passed down to all men on earth.
Jesus christ came to earth with a perfect body to take away the sins of the world. And his innocent blood brought about forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7). The blood of Jesus is sufficient for all who come to Him in genuine repentance and faith. However, believers must understand that not all sins are the same in their nature and consequence.
Infact, 1 John 5:16-17 makes it clear for us to see and know the two distinct kinds of sins in the sight of God. John distinguishes between sin not unto death and sin unto death.
Our brother has explained that sin not unto death refers to unintentional sins, or from a place of ignorance and sudden temptation. For example Christian who loses their temper in a moment of stress and speaks harshly to a loved one, but later when he's calm, he feels remorse and try to make things right. This type of sins can not lead to spiritual separation from God.
But there's a sin that is unto death and this type of sin is done with full knowledge and deliberation. Sometimes its a pre planned sin and it is ususally done with a hardened heart despite knowing better. For example, a person who continues in adultery or fornication while claiming to be a Christian, without any intention of stopping.
Hebrews 10:26-27 calls it willful sin, and warns that if any man decides to sin willfully after he has gotten the right knowledge and understanding about God, then there remaineth no other sacrifice for him. This means that Jesus christ won't come again to die for such a believer. It's important to always act on the word of God and believe that he has forgiven us and given us His very nature.
