One of the most significant aspects of the Christian life is obedience to the will of God. God made us, and He is aware of what is best to us. When we do His will we demonstrate that we put our faith in him and that we love him.
In John 14: 15, the Bible states that, if ye love me, keep my commandments. This implies that one does not simply love God, but acts on it. By obeying His commands we are demonstrating our love and respect to Him.
Not always is obedience to God easy. Our will to do what God asks us might be different at times. I have been taught that sometimes obedience to the will of God can be costly and take a long time and humility.
The Bible however makes us remember in Acts 5:29, we should obey God and not men. This verse informs us that the command of God should always precede in our lives even in situations where we believe that other people have a different opinion.
Blessings and guidance are also a blessing of obedience. By obeying the will of God, He guides us down the right way. Deuteronomy 5: 33, in the Bible, states that; Ye shall walk in all the ways which the lord thy God would command thee, that it may be well with thee. This indicates that, obedience is not intended to hurt us, yet, to enable us to lead a good and meaningful life.
When dealing with myself, I can say that obeying God is only achieved through listening attentively to His words in the bible and putting into practice in everyday life. It is making difficult decisions that involve honesty, kindness, and faithfulness.
In James 1: 22, it also states in the bible, that you shall be doers of the word, and not hearers only. This makes me remember that the real faith is expressed by the obedience.
Conclusively, obedience to the will of God is an indicator of faith and love towards Him. It must be dedicated and genuine.
Having obeyed God, we come closer to Him and His guidance of our lives. In my opinion, only when living in accordance with His will, we may lead the life that will please Him and will make our hearts calm.
God bless his word
Amen
