In the bible, love and suffering are closely related. Most people assume that love is simply supposed to bring joy, warmth and tranquility. However, the Bible demonstrates that in the process of true love, one must sacrifice, suffer and persevere.
Love does not merely denote a feeling but I would say it is an obligation that is tested in the disturbing times. Jesus Christ is the best illustration of love and suffering. Jesus took the cross as a result of his great love for humanity. He was taunted, struck and crucified but He did not surrender. He is referred to as a man of sorrows who bore our pain, His agony was not in vain, he brought salvation to the world.
This is what we learn that love at times asks us to suffer in order to achieve something greater.
Love acts as a sacrifice in our day to day lives. The parents are victims with the aim of feeding, educating and advising their children. This misery is fueled by love as the love that God had towards us made Him to give His Son. In Romans 5:3-4, the Bible reminds us that in suffering there is perseverance, character and hope.
