As children of God, the Word of God should be our guide. It is a manual that assists us navigate through life efficiently. Inasmuch as we respect those who existed before we came into this world, we should not neglect the one who created them and brought them into this world.
Every other voice that does not sound like the voice of God and counters what God says should be ignored. It is quite understandable to have respect for certain traditions and family heritage, but we should be extremely careful so as not to carry out the practices of our ancestors at the detriment of disregarding God laws.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
There are some beliefs and ways of life (traditions) that we have to put aside after we have surrendered our lives to Jesus. Our ancestors and the patterns by which they lived their lives should not be the reason why we should go contrary to the path we Christians are supposed to walk in.
