One of the most important tasks given to parents by God is passing of faith to their children. We do not just preach faith with words, but we live it out day by day.
Children learn by watching than by listening. As soon as they observe us pray, pardon, love, and trust God, they start to realize what the faith really is.
This responsibility is clearly taught in the bible. Bible states in Deuteronomy 6:67, these commandments that I give you to-day shall be in your hearts. have them impressed on thy children.
This demonstrates that faith is to be instilled delicately and frequently and not through force. We are supposed to discuss God at our house, road and in our routine. Religion develops organically when it is incorporated to everyday life.
I now realize that a passing faith is not concerned with perfection. It is concerning telling the truth with God and with our children. Once I commit errors and pray, repent, and have faith in God, my children will learn that God is merciful.
This is what Proverbs 22:6 tells, Train him up in the way he must be, And when he becomes old he will not leave it. Training is time-consuming, loving and constant.
Prayer also becomes very important. Parents are expected to pray with their children and pray over them. In 2 Timothy 1: 5, Paul talked about the genuine faith that was first in Timothy grandmother and mother before it got to him.
This demonstrates that religion is capable of transference across generations.
To sum up, it is our lifetime occupation to pass faith to our children.
It needs love, example, prayer and teaching of the Word of God. When we practice our faith on a serious note, then the children will tend to follow through the same way and to be firm in the Lord.
