Time and again, I take a glance at the world and question myself as to why there is so much evil on the earth. We can observe wars, injustice, hatred, violence, and suffering. Human beings injure each other without caring and it is painful to the heart.
I know that evil did not begin with God as indicated in the Bible. God created everything good. According to the Bible, God viewed all that he had created and, lo, it was very good (Genesis 1:31). Evil was introduced later and not in the original plan of God.
The Bible teaches that the Bible is about sin that introduced evil in the world. Sin emerged when Adam and Eve defied God and with sin, pain and death and wickedness were born. Romans 5:12 states, whereby, through one man, sin entered into the world and through sin, death.
Through it, sin has since then overtaken the human hearts. Most of the individuals pursue their own ways rather than the ways of God and this decision leads to evil practices.
The other reason behind the existence of much evil is due to the devil. According to the bible, he is a friend of evil. John 10:10 writes,
The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. In my opinion, the devil manipulates individuals to commit evil acts through the promotion of lies, arrogance, and anger. Evil is amplified in the world when the people listen to him rather than God.
But God is not oblivious to the evil on earth. To him, he gives the freedom of the human being to make a choice of evil or good. In Deuteronomy 30: 19, it is stated, I have placed before thee life and death, blessing and cursing, choose life therefore.
I have come to know that God desires us to make the right choice of righteousness, love and mercy, despite the evil in the world.
To sum it up, evil is present as a result of sin, improper decisions, and the power of the devil. Nevertheless, I do not lose hope as God will judge evil and reward good as the Bible promises.
Revelation 21: 4 gives a promise that pain and wickedness will cease. So far, I think that we should live in accordance to the word of God and be lights in this dark world.
