Greetings!
Addiction is one thing that if care is not taken, then life would be destroyed and destiny would be shattered.
You don’t have to read the Bible to understand drug addiction—basic medical knowledge can already explain it. When you study how the human body works, you’ll realize that addiction is not limited to a certain kind of person. Anyone can become addicted once they begin.
The human body is highly adaptable. It adjusts to different environments—whether extreme cold or intense heat. People live in snowy regions all year round, just as others survive in very hot climates. The body responds accordingly: in cold weather, the skin tightens, and in heat, it opens up to release sweat, helping to regulate temperature.
This same adaptability is what makes addiction possible. The first time someone smokes, they often cough because the body is trying to reject something harmful. Cigarette smoke contains nicotine, tar, and other toxic substances that the body does not recognize as natural. However, with repeated use, the body begins to adjust and tolerate these harmful chemicals. Over time, this leads to dependence and can cause serious damage to the body’s cells and tissues.
At the beginning, the body resists, but persistence weakens that resistance. When I came to understand this, alongside the teachings of the Bible, I made a firm decision to quit. I threw away my lighter and the last cigarette I had. Since that moment, I have stopped smoking, guided by my faith and my respect for God.
God is ready to help, but you must also take action. Addiction cannot be broken without personal determination. Even though God desires to help everyone, real change begins when you decide to help yourself.
