Dealing with addiction is never easy, and for many people, it can feel like a lonely and hopeless fight. But the Bible shows us that even strong believers have struggled with the same issues. In the MCGI teaching How to Deal with Addiction in Life (Part 1 of 3), it’s clear that the first step to overcoming addiction is admitting that we need help. The Apostle Paul said
Romans 7:19, “For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do this I keep on doing.”
That verse reminds us that struggles are part of being human, and admitting our weakness is the beginning of healing.
The teaching also reminds us that we’re not alone in our battles. God is always ready to help. In 1 Corinthians 10:13, the Bible says that no temptation is too big for us to handle and that God always makes a way to escape it. That means we’re never stuck there’s always hope. With constant prayer, reading the Bible, and surrounding ourselves with people who can support and encourage us spiritually, we can begin to break free. It's not about trying to do everything on our own but relying on God's strength to help us through.
One of the most powerful parts of the teaching is the idea of changing the way we think. Romans 12:2 talks about renewing our minds so we don’t follow the same negative patterns. That means letting go of the habits and environments that trigger our addiction and focusing on things that bring us closer to God. With time, faith, and daily effort, it's possible to find freedom and peace even from the strongest addictions.
