What is the image of God according to the Bible | The Old Path
John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
24.God is a spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
This is the principle that we must believe about God. He is a spirit. When God said, let us make man in our image after our likeness, it is not a physical likeness, neither is it be a figurative likeness. Because God is a spirit, it is a spiritual likeness that God mentions in the verse.
It is important that we know what God meant when He said in Genesis "Let us make man in our image after our likeness."
Psalm 17:15 - As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness. I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.
This is to say that the likeness of God is righteousness. As He is righteous, He made us righteous also. As He is holy, He made man holy also.
Ecclesiastes 7:29 - Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright, but they have sought out many inventions.
Man was initially made upright, righteous, holy, but then he sought out many inventions. So when God says, let us make man after our image, after our likeness, He means as He is holy, as He is righteous. And that was the state of Adam when he was created.
When God saw everything he had made, including man, He saw that it was very good. Man was made very good, righteous, perfect. Man was created by God in His image and likeness, righteous, holy, upright. That was the condition of Adam when he was first made, but man went ahead and sought out many inventions.
