Luke 23:39-42 KJV
And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. [40] But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? [41] And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. [42] And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Verse 42 is exactly the place where he professes faith. He is a believer immediately he professes Christ, and that is enough to save him.
For the malefactor profession of faith is enough for him cause he only has few minutes to his death. But to us who are still alive is it enough to just profess Christ?. I believe that if a man will live more than just minutes, hours, days, weeks and even years, such a person will need to do more than profession of faith.
2 Peter 1:5-9 KJV
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. [8] For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [9] But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Since we are not blind we must offer beyond just having faith, we must do other things.
We must add to our faith all that was said in the passage above. After we have been saved my faith, we must add obedience to our faith. We must know that faith is not enough for a man still alive.
1 Corinthians 13:13 KJV
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
Of all that is mentioned in this passage faith is not the greatest. The greatest is love.
We must understand love is the greatest Christian virtue.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 KJV
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. [2] And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. [3] And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
Without love Paul the Apostle of Jesus said he gains nothing. Even if I speak tongues of angels without love, I gain nothing.
Without love, faith is never enough. But to those on the cross faith is enough because they don't have time to do anything any more.
