It has been a kind of nutso week and to be honest I haven't really been paying attention to a lot of what I have been listening to. Shame on me right?
This week's post will probably be short and sweet. It is Friday and my mind is already on the weekend, the price of hive is down, engagement is down, and it's hard to feel like anyone even cares anymore.
I am an idiot. I will admit that right off the bat. Somehow I seem to always forget just how awesome The Killers are. I was listening to Satellite radio in the car the other day and I heard this song not once but twice in the same day. It always kind of drives me crazy when I hear the same song in one day on Sirius/XM because they have such a vast catalog of music at their fingertips. Unless it is an AT40 station, I should be lucky to hear the same song twice in a week.
Anyway, I didn't really mind that I heard this one twice because it is a really good song. I couldn't really tell you what the video is about, but the song itself is pretty solid I think.
I couldn't tell you why, but this song has been on my mind a lot lately. I found myself singing it this morning as I was getting ready for work. Maybe it has to do with the election coming up, who knows...
It is a really good song. Very powerful lyrics and I really dig the voice of Barry McGuire in it. I couldn't name a single other song he sang, but this one is definitely one to listen to. It spoke a lot to the world climate at the time it was written (by P.F. Sloan) and I think a lot of it still holds true today.
Even as a little kid the weight of the words in the song were very apparent to me.
In fact, I am listening to it again now and I am kind of getting chills from the later verses.
Finally, I am going to share this song with you. I have heard it before, but never in the way you see here. My wife and I were driving in to work and this song came on. It was the original version with Nancy Sinatra though. My wife was complaining that the song sounded really hokey. I think at one point she even said "what are we listening to?". I tried to convince her that the song is awesome, but she just wouldn't believe me.
I started thinking, maybe if I found a more up to date cover of the song she might enjoy it. That is when I happened upon this collaboration between The Corrs and Bono. I love the Corrs, they had a sound that was super awesome even before the whole Riverdance thing became popular. Plus, I just love U2, so this was a match made in heaven.
I shared this video with my wife and she was still a bit "meh" about the whole thing. She decided it was the lyrics. They are just dumb in her mind and seem a bit goofy. I guess I can understand that, but I still think it is a great song. Plus anytime you get to see the Corrs perform it should always put a smile on your face for one reason or another...
That's all I have for this week. As usual with me this ended up being longer than I had expected. If you have been listening to something awesome this week let me know about it in the comments. Better yet, write your own post and use the #whoareyoulisteningto tag.
